Gender-based corruption

Fella nullius

Many social policies from tax funded agencies are developed under the principle of fella nullius - i.e. that men don't exist. This particularly applies to men who are responsible and capable fathers - they are invisible in public policy.

If men exist at all in social policy, it is only in the negative - as bad, irresponsible, violent or destructive. There are plenty of policies for them.

One of the ways to bring about fella nullius is for tax funded agencies to claim that men aren't interested. Men don't care about paternity leave, their children, or their health. These claims are dicktation tests to exclude men.

The claims are always made vicariously, in the third person, about "those men". However, we never hear any man saying -"I don't care about my kids", "I don't care about paternity leave" or "I don't care about my health".

Gender cringe

Gender cringe is the behaviour men and fathers sometimes adopt to avoid appearing to challenge women. Examples include:

- accepting denigration of yourself, or men in general, particularly in front of your children,

- pretending to be less capable than you really are, or playing the clown, about domestic and family activities,

- allowing women to control your relationships with others - see vicarious existence,

- not speaking out against unfavourable public debate and policy decisions, or

- false criticism of men in order to try and sell something to women - see bitch-whistle marketing.

It is tempting to be passive and let these issues slide, or act the fool, for the sake of an easier existence. But in reality, it damages children to see you behave in this way.

Men and fathers should stand up for themselves, for their children's sake, so that their children may learn how to live their own lives.

Gender-based corruption

Gender-based corruption is making decisions and bestowing financial favours on some people based on their gender, rather than merit, while excluding others based on them being the opposite gender, irrespective of merit.

Gender-based corruption is the same as any other form of corruption. It is the same as abusing planning regulations to find loopholes to give contracts to people of your group, or to exclude other people because you don't like the group they belong to. We have perfectly good words for this behaviour – negligence, cronyism and corruption.

Two of the mechanisms used to try and hide gender-based corruption are dicktation tests and lacktation tests. These tests are used to disguise decisions made on the basis of gender.

A Dicktation Test is a negative test - it finds men and fails them, but allows women to pass or to avoid the test. A Lacktation Test is a positive test - it finds women and passes them, but men are excluded.
